Getting there

Travel & Arrival

We can't wait to celebrate with you in beautiful Nova Scotia. Here's how to get to us.

Step 01

Fly in Friday

Book flights into Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), arriving Friday so you're settled for the weekend's festivities.

Step 02

Coordinate & carpool

Please coordinate your arrival times with one another. Sharing rental cars from the airport is a great way to travel — and the drive is more fun together.

Step 03

Drive to the hotel

From the airport it's about a 2.5-hour scenic drive (~230 km) to DesBarres Manor Inn, where rooms are already booked for everyone.

Prefer to fly in Thursday? Depending on flight availability in your area, flying into Halifax on Thursday and spending the night there before driving out Friday is a great option. Halifax is a cute, fun city with plenty to see and do — a lovely way to ease into the trip.

Three Ways to Spend the Morning

The morning is yours to enjoy however you like — pick your pace:

1. Chill at the Manor. Sleep in and relax. The Castaway Cafe, right across the street, opens at 11:00 AM — grab a bite and enjoy a bit of Guysborough.

2. Join us on the hike. Come along for the walk to the lake (details below).

3. Chill at the house. Head out to the house and soak in the views of the bay — no hiking required.

Whatever you choose, we'll all gather later in the day for pictures and the ceremony.

Hike to the Lake

We'll start the day with a group hike out to the lake. About 1.25 miles each way, with some steeper stretches. Meet at the house: 6950 NS-16, Guysborough, NS B0H 1N0.

It's about a 15-minute drive from the Manor to the house, so plan to head out around 8:10 AM to arrive in time. Directions from the Manor →

Dinner in the Bell Tent

Following the ceremony, we'll celebrate over dinner in the bell tent on the lawn — a relaxed, serve-yourself affair. On the menu: vegetarian lasagna and shepherd's pie, with wedding cake for dessert. 🍰

Afterward, head back to the hotel for more fun if you'd like — the newlyweds will retire to the lake.

Sunday morning

Farewell Breakfast

Let's share one more meal together. We'll meet at the Manor in the morning for breakfast to enjoy each other's company and send everyone off with full hearts. Until the next adventure!

What to wear

Comfortable Bohemian

Think earthy, free-flowing, and relaxed — natural fabrics, warm tones, and whatever lets you move easily from lakeside to lawn. Dress for comfort and a little adventure.

A note on the weather — pack layers! October in Nova Scotia brings crisp, cool autumn days, with daytime highs averaging 52–62°F (11–16°C) and nighttime lows dropping to 37–47°F (3–8°C). Early October is often sunny and pleasant, but the month brings frequent chilly rain showers and coastal breezes. We'll be outdoors by the water at sunset, so bring a cozy layer, a wrap or jacket, and shoes you don't mind on grass and trails.
…just please, no white 🤍
